Aldona
learned to knit from a neighbor in Japan fifteen years ago. Since then,
she’s made hats, mittens, baby blankets, sweaters and shawls and
never leaves the house without a sock-in-progress. Perhaps her most
unusual project was a Little Red Riding Hood doll just four inches tall.
And she can make really good center-pull balls without aid of a swift
or ball-winder! |

See pictures of this class at yarnonthebrain.com! Prerequisites: Please know how to knit in the round and follow a pattern. You don’t have to know how to knit continental style, but you might want to consider the Jan. 13th class as a warm up for this class. Materials needed: Yarn for this project is included
in the price of the class. We will be using a machine-washable wool;
you pick the colors. You will need the following needles: 24”
circular needles, sizes 2 and 4, and double-pointed needles sizes 2

| Basic
Socks with Magic Loop Option with Catherine Shumadine |
| Catherine Shumadine’s family crest includes the words “Knit. Eat. Sleep.” A knitter since childhood, she discovered the joy of socks while pregnant and in the decade since has knit countless pairs. Sadly, fate has given her a daughter who refuses to wear hand-knit sweaters, so she has had to turn her professional energies to teaching knitting, as well as knitting for local designers and individuals. |

101: Knitting A Sweater Without A Pattern with Judy Warde Note: KnitWit offers a 15%
discount on yarn for this project. |
| Judy Warde moved to Maine seven years ago after working for years in public policy, and decided to knit. Within a short time she became totally fascinated by the fact that knitting could be so simple yet so complex and set out to learn all she could about knitting technique and design. An avid puzzler, she quickly discovered that knitting also provides a lot of problem solving fun. Now a committed knitaholic, she feels she’s learned so much from the area’s talented and generous knitters that she wants to pass that knowledge on to others. |

Knitting with Melinda Titus Sat.
Jan. 12 & 19, 10 - 12 Fee
$30 Do you have a project that’s been lurking in your closet, never to be finished or loved? Liberate it! Work with fiber artist Melinda Titus to transform that project into something unique. Don’t expect to ‘fix’ your piece – you may end up completely letting go of the original idea, or you may just tweak it a bit; you’ll definitely see it change. If your project is mostly wool, all the better; felting may be one of the techniques you can use to transform it. However, all materials are acceptable! Be prepared to knit, cut, felt, sew, or graft; learn to incorporate your mistakes into your work. Bring scrap yarn, needles, scissors and an adventurous attitude. Top |
| Fiber artist and dog governess Melinda Titus lives in Portland’s East End, where she makes extraordinary artwork, some of which she wears on her head. |
